Recent studies have determined that the distance to the brightest star in the night sky, Sirius, is approximately 8.61 light-years from Earth.

(Chapter An-Najm, Verse 49): In chapter "The Star" (Surah An-Najm, Verse 49), Sirius is mentioned by name. The verse states:

"And that it is He who is the Lord of Sirius."
