Reflection on Qur’ān 76:1–76:7

1. Qur’ān 76:1 — From Nothingness

“Has there not come upon the human a period of time when they were nothing worth mentioning?”

(76:1)

Before identity.

Before name.

Before existence.

Nothing mentioned.

Qur’ān Explains:

“How can you deny Allah? You were lifeless and He gave you life.”

(2:28)

“Does man not remember that We created him before, when he was nothing?”

(19:67)

“Allah created you, then provides for you, then causes you to die, then will give you life again.”

(30:40)

2. Qur’ān 76:2 — The Test Begins

“Indeed, We created the human from a drop of mixed fluid to test them, so We made them hearing and seeing.”

(76:2)

Creation with purpose.

Life as examination.

Given perception.

Given awareness.

Qur’ān Confirms:

“He created death and life to test which of you is best in deeds.”

(67:2)

“We showed him the two paths.”

(90:10)

“Indeed, We guided him to the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful.”

(76:3)

3. Qur’ān 76:3 — Guidance Granted

“We guided him to the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful.”

(76:3)

Clarity given.

Choice remains.

Qur’ān Explains:

“Whoever is guided is only guided for their own good.”

(17:15)

“Whoever wills—let them believe; and whoever wills—let them disbelieve.”

(18:29)

4. Qur’ān 76:4 — Consequence

“Indeed, We have prepared for the disbelievers chains, shackles, and a blazing Fire.”

(76:4)

Rejection is not without outcome.

Qur’ān Confirms:

“Every soul is held in pledge for what it has earned.”

(74:38)

“This Day you are recompensed for what you used to do.”

(45:28)

5. Qur’ān 76:5 — The Reward of the Righteous

“Indeed, the righteous will drink from a cup mixed with Kāfūr.”

(76:5)

Qur’ān Explains:

“Indeed, the righteous will be in bliss.”

(82:13)

“They will be given to drink a pure drink.”

(76:21)

"There they have fruit and whatever they ask for."

(36:57)

6. Qur’ān 76:6 — A Special Spring

“A spring from which the servants of Allah will drink, making it flow as they wish.”

(76:6)

Not just drink.

Control.

Honor.

Nearness.

Qur’ān Confirms:

"The description of the Paradise promised to the righteous is that in it are rivers of fresh water, rivers of milk that never changes in taste, rivers of wine delicious to drink, and rivers of pure honey. There they will ˹also˺ have all kinds of fruit, and forgiveness from their Lord. ˹Can they be˺ like those who will stay in the Fire forever, left to drink boiling water that will tear apart their insides?"

(47:15)

7. Qur’ān 76:7 — Who Are These People?

“They fulfill their vows and fear a Day whose evil is widespread.”

(76:7)

Their qualities:

They commit.

They honor promises.

They fear accountability.

Qur’ān Explains:

“Those who fulfill their covenant with Allah and do not break their pledge.”

(13:20)

"Indeed, they used to race in doing good, and call upon Us with hope and fear, totally humbling themselves before Us."

(21:90)
