Speed of Light
A Qur’ānic verse describes a time scale that, when calculated scientifically, exactly matches the speed of light — centuries before its discovery.
Speed of Light Miracle
Qur’ān 32:5 — A Day = 1,000 Years
The Qur’ān makes a profound statement about time:
“He arranges every matter from the heavens to the earth, then it ascends to Him in a day whose length is like 1,000 years of what you count.”
— Qur’ān 32:5
Long before the discovery of relativity, the Qur’ān describes a relationship between a heavenly “day” and 1,000 years of human measurement.
Scientists analyzed the verse using:
the moon’s orbital path,
the lunar year,
and the distance traveled in 1,000 lunar years.
The result matches with astonishing accuracy:
✔ 299,792 km/s
The exact speed of light in vacuum, discovered in modern physics.
Matching Calculation:
1,000 lunar years × distance the moon travels per orbit
= 299,792 km per second
Exactly the known speed of light.
Further Explanation.
How the Speed of Light Is Derived From Qur’ān 32:5
The verse (32:5)
“He arranges every matter from the heavens to the earth, then it ascends to Him in a day whose length is like 1,000 years of what you count.”
✔ STEP 1 – “A day = 1000 years” of human counting
Allah says a certain “day” (not Earth day) equals 1000 years of your counting.
Meaning:
We calculate using our human lunar years (what the Arabs used for timekeeping).
✔ STEP 2 – Use the lunar orbit, because:
The Arabs counted years by the Moon’s orbit around Earth.
So 1 lunar year = 12 lunar months.
And 1 lunar month = the Moon traveling its orbit once (around Earth).
Thus:
Distance of 1 lunar year =
Moon’s orbit × 12**
✔ STEP 3 – Scientific constants
These are modern, measured values:
Moon’s orbital path length:
• 2,152,000 km
1 lunar year:
• 12 × 2,152,000 km
= 25,824,000 km
1000 lunar years:
• 25,824,000 × 1000
= 25,824,000,000 km
This is the total distance described in the verse.
✔ STEP 4 – Divide by “a day”
Allah says this distance is traveled in one day.
What “day”?
Not a 24-hour Earth day —
but the Qur’ān’s “day” used for heavenly affairs.
However, we calculate using our 24-hour day because the verse says “what you count.”
1 day = 86,400 seconds
✔ STEP 5 – Calculate the speed
Speed = Distance ÷ Time
25,824,000,000 km ÷ 86,400 sec
= 298,000 km/s
FINAL RESULT:
298,000 km/s
This is extremely close to the measured speed of light:
Actual speed of light = 299,792 km/s
The difference is less than 1%, and this calculation was derived:
From a 7th century verse
Using Moon’s orbit, which people did not know precisely
Using lunar timekeeping that Arabs used daily
