And, although their hearts were convinced the signs were true, they still denied them wrongfully and arrogantly. See then what was the end of the corruptors!
The Destroyed Nations
The Qur’ān does not only tell the story of nations that were destroyed. It speaks of their remains in the present tense — “their ruins still lie along a known route”, “so those are their houses, lying in ruins”, “whose ruins they still pass by”. A claim like that can be checked. Every file below is a place you can visit today.
The People of Noah
We certainly left this as a sign. So is there anyone who will be mindful?
Noah called his people to Allah for nine hundred and fifty years. They mocked him, and only a few believed.
“Indeed, We sent Noah to his people, and he remained among them for a thousand years, less fifty. Then the Flood overtook them, while they persisted in wrongdoing.”Qur’ān 29:14
He was commanded to build the Ark on dry land, under the eyes of Allah, while his people laughed.
“And build the Ark under Our watchful Eyes and directions, and do not plead with Me for those who have done wrong, for they will surely be drowned.”Qur’ān 11:37
The sky opened, the earth burst with springs, and the Ark carried the believers until it came to rest on Mount Jūdī.
“The water subsided, the matter was accomplished, and the Ark came to rest on Mount Jūdī. And it was said, ‘Away with the wrongdoing people!’”Qur’ān 11:44
Over 1,400 years ago the Qur’ān declared, in the present tense: “We left it as a sign.” The Qur’ān even names the mountain. And on the slopes of Jūdī, the vessel-shaped formation still lies there today — a sign for anyone willing to look.

“We certainly left this as a sign. So is there anyone who will be mindful?”Qur’ān 54:15
The People of Thamūd
As for Thamūd, they were destroyed by the overpowering blast.
Thamūd were master builders who carved palaces and tombs straight into the mountains. Allah sent them their brother Ṣāliḥ.
“And to Thamūd We sent their brother Ṣāliḥ. He said, ‘O my people! Worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him.’”Qur’ān 11:61
They demanded a miracle. Allah brought a she-camel out of the rock — and they hamstrung her and challenged Ṣāliḥ to bring the punishment.
“But they killed her, so he warned them, ‘Enjoy yourselves in your homes for three more days! That is a threat that will not be broken.’”Qur’ān 11:65
On the fourth day the blast came. Their homes are still carved in the cliffs — empty.
“So those are their houses — lying in ruins — because of their wrongdoing. Surely in this is a sign for people who know.”Qur’ān 27:52
The Qur’ān does not say “their houses were in ruins”. It says “those are their houses — lying in ruins”, as if you are standing in front of them. 1,400 years later the façades of Al-Ḥijr still stand in the cliffs of AlUla, exactly as described.

“And ʿĀd and Thamūd — it must be clear to you from their ruins.”Qur’ān 29:38
The People of Lūṭ
And We turned the cities upside down and rained upon them stones of baked clay.
Lūṭ was sent to a people who did what no nation on earth had done before them: the men left women and went to men. He called them to purity, and they threatened to drive him out of the city for it.
“Indeed, you practice such immorality as no people before you have ever committed. Do you really lust after men instead of women? You are a transgressing people.”Qur’ān 7:80–81
“Do you approach the males of the world, and leave the wives your Lord has created for you? No — you are a transgressing people!”Qur’ān 26:165–166
The angels came to Lūṭ in the form of young men. His people came running to his door, demanding his guests. He was told: leave by night with your family — and do not look back.
“They even demanded his angel-guests from him, so We blinded their eyes. ‘Taste then My punishment and My warnings!’”Qur’ān 54:37
“Then the mighty blast overtook them at sunrise.”Qur’ān 15:73
The cities were lifted, turned upside down, and stones of baked clay rained down on them, one after another. The land never recovered.
“Their ruins still lie along a known route. Surely in this is a sign for those who believe.”Qur’ān 15:76–77
The Qur’ān says the ruins “still lie along a known route” and tells the Arabs “you pass by them in the morning and at night”. The Dead Sea basin — the lowest, most lifeless place on Earth — lies on the old caravan road from Makkah to Syria, exactly where the verse puts it.

These words were addressed to them — the people of Lūṭ — on the day their cities were overturned. The Qur’ān preserves them so that every generation hears what they heard.
˹The people of Lūṭ were told:˺“Taste My punishment and My warnings!”
˹Allāh asks of what became of them:˺“So how was My punishment and My warnings?”
“And We poured upon them a rain of stones. How evil was the rain of those who had been warned!”

The one who stayed behind — Lūṭ’s wife
Lūṭ’s own wife was not saved. She lived in the house of a Prophet and sided with the people of the city. The Qur’ān names her as a warning — and above the Dead Sea a lone pillar of salt still stands, which the people of the land have called ‘Lot’s wife’ for centuries.
“So travel with your family in the dark of night, and do not let any of you look back — except your wife. She will certainly be struck by what strikes them.”Qur’ān 11:81
“Except his wife. We have decreed that she will be one of those who remain behind.”Qur’ān 15:60
“Allah sets forth an example for the disbelievers: the wife of Noah and the wife of Lūṭ. They were under two of Our righteous servants, yet they betrayed them. So their husbands were of no help to them against Allah, and it was said: ‘Enter the Fire with those who enter.’”Qur’ān 66:10
“They have certainly passed by the city which was showered with a dreadful rain. Have they not seen its ruins?”Qur’ān 25:40
The People of Madyan
Allāh seized them for their sins.
Madyan was a trading nation that cheated in weights and measures and cut people off from the straight path. Allah sent them Shuʿayb.
“O my people! Worship Allah… So give full measure and weight, and do not cheat people of their belongings.”Qur’ān 7:85
They mocked him — “Does your prayer command you that we should leave what our fathers worshipped?” — and threatened to expel him.
“So the earthquake seized them, and they were left lifeless in their homes — lying face down.”Qur’ān 7:91
Their stone-cut homes in the valley of Al-Badʿ are still there. The people are not.
“Those are their residences, never inhabited after them except passingly. And We alone were the Successor.”Qur’ān 28:58
The Qur’ān says of destroyed nations that people “still pass by” their ruins. In the Tabuk region of Saudi Arabia, the rock-cut houses linked to Madyan are still standing on the roadside — uninhabited, exactly as 28:58 describes.

“Is it not yet clear to them how many peoples We destroyed before them, whose ruins they still pass by?”Qur’ān 32:26
Pharaoh
Today We will preserve your body so you may be a sign for those after you.
Pharaoh enslaved the Children of Israel, slaughtered their sons, and called himself god.
“And he said, ‘I am your lord, the most high!’”Qur’ān 79:24
Moses came to him with nine clear signs. He called them magic and chased the believers to the sea.
“So We seized him and his soldiers and threw them into the sea. See then what was the end of the wrongdoers!”Qur’ān 28:40
As the water closed over him he cried out: ‘I believe that there is no god except the One the Children of Israel believe in!’ The answer came from above the waves:
“Now? When you had disobeyed before and were one of the corruptors?”Qur’ān 10:91
“Today We will preserve your body so you may be a sign for those after you. And indeed, most people are heedless of Our signs.”Qur’ān 10:92
Every other tyrant of that age is dust. Pharaoh’s body was found in 1898 and lies today in a glass case in Cairo, where millions walk past it — the one body the Qur’ān said would be preserved as a sign, preserved.

“Today We will preserve your body so you may be a sign for those after you.”Qur’ān 10:92

The land of Abraham’s people — the temple of the moon still stands
Ur was not destroyed like the nations above, but its proof is physical too. The Great Ziggurat of Ur — the temple of the moon-god Nanna — still rises over the plain of southern Iraq. The Qur’ān records Abraham, born among these people, rejecting exactly that worship:
“Then when he saw the moon rising he said, ‘This one is my Lord!’ But when it set he said, ‘If my Lord does not guide me, I will certainly be one of the misguided people.’”Qur’ān 6:77
The temple is still there. The god it was built for has no worshipper left on Earth. The religion of the one man who refused it is followed by billions.
Who told an unlettered man in the desert, 1,400 years ago, exactly where these ruins would be?
“We will show them Our signs in the horizons and within themselves until it becomes clear to them that this is the truth.”
The ruins were there when the verses came down. They are there now. What has changed?
“None can change His words. He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.”
If the words about the past were true to the stone, what about the words about what is coming?
“Then when the Trumpet is blown with one blast, and the earth and the mountains are lifted and crushed with one blow — on that Day the Inevitable Event will have come to pass, and the sky will split apart, for on that Day it will be frail.”
“And the true promise draws near — then the eyes of the disbelievers will stare in horror: ‘Woe to us! We were truly heedless of this. In fact, we were wrongdoers.’”
“You were totally heedless of this. Now We have lifted your veil, so your sight today is sharp.”
“The Hour is their appointed time — and the Hour will be most catastrophic and most bitter.”
Did you think this was all for nothing?
“Did you then think that We created you uselessly, and that you would not be returned to Us?”
“Does man think he will be left without purpose?”
“Every soul will taste death. And you will only be paid your full reward on the Day of Judgment. Whoever is drawn away from the Fire and admitted into Paradise has truly succeeded — for the life of this world is nothing but deceiving enjoyment.”
“So travel throughout the earth and see the fate of the deniers.”
“He shows you His signs, so which of Allāh’s signs will you deny?”
“And We have certainly made the Qur’ān easy to remember. So is there anyone who will be mindful?”
