The Miracle of Skin & Pain Receptors in the Qur’ān

Modern science has discovered that the sensation of pain is directly linked to the skin, particularly due to pain receptors embedded within it. If the skin is completely burned, these receptors are destroyed, and the person no longer feels pain. This is a crucial medical understanding used in treatments for burn victims today.

However, over 1400 years ago, the Qur’ān revealed this scientific fact in a verse that describes how those who reject the truth will be punished in Hellfire, emphasizing that their skins will be replaced so they continue to feel the pain:

وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا سَوْفَ نُصْلِيهِمْ نَارًۭا ۖ كُلَّمَا نَضِجَتْ جُلُودُهُمْ بَدَّلْنَـٰهُمْ جُلُودًۭا غَيْرَهَا لِيَذُوقُوا۟ ٱلْعَذَابَ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ عَزِيزًا حَكِيمًۭا

“As for those who deny Our revelations, We will burn them in the Fire. Every time their skins are burned completely, We will replace them with new skins so they may continue to taste the punishment. Surely, Allah is Almighty, All-Wise.”

This verse highlights an astonishing scientific reality—that pain sensation is directly tied to the skin. This knowledge was only confirmed by modern medical research centuries later.

This is yet another example of how the Qur’ān contains knowledge far beyond human discovery at the time of its revelation, serving as a powerful sign for those who reflect.
